Advertisements are the future. If you just try to image all the advertisements that have changed your life. Whether, that may be from seeing an ad about yogurt, which helps you digestive system. Or while you were reading the paper you stumbled upon an ad that had vitamins that help with bone strength. You could have even just spotted “eyes with money” spying on you and you decided to switch to Geico. Now you are saving money on car insurance. These are all forms of fantastic advertisement. Advertisements are here to help our everyday lives and they are truly beneficial.
Today it is rare that you will see an advertisement that displays the use of smoking and other serious unhealthy habits. Usually any ads you see that involve smoking are anti-smoking ads. Such as this one which clearly portrays the act of smoking as negative.
Now if you go to image.google.com and search smoking ads with out specifying if you want them to be negative or positive. 3 out of 25 are positive, that is only 12%, meaning majority of the ads are negative towards smoking.
Many people have opinions on advertisement. One group in particular that supports ads is The Chicago School. The Chicago School Is the nation's oldest and largest University, which focuses on psychology and related behavioral sciences. Now the saying is, the older the wiser so I would take some advice from this wonderful school.
"Their view is that advertising is informative: "search costs"--the cost of finding the product that fits your needs--lead to market inefficiencies. If you don't know about better products you can't buy them, so advertisers are doing you a service by letting you know about their products. Advertising is the most efficient way to minimize search costs. Advertising is good.”
Ultimately The Chicago School is saying that advertisers are doing you a service by letting you know all about the companies helpful products.
The top five franchises of 2009 are Subway, McDonalds, Liberty Tax Service, Sonic Drive in Restaurants and InterContinental Hotels Group. All five of these businesses owe some of their fame to advertisement. McDonalds for example spends a whopping 2 billion dollars a year on advertising. With that said you can conclude that advertisement is a prodigious part of a businesses success. So without advertisement small businesses wouldn’t thrive because no one knows about them. While large businesses that everyone knows about will continue being a success. This means that at the end of the road saying no to advertisement is saying no to small businesses which just means you are saying no to new ideas and advancement in society.
In conclusion I feel as though advertising is drawing our attention to the positive and beneficial aspects of life. Plus advertisements that promote serious unhealthy actions are continuously becoming rarer. Plus, without advertisement small businesses wouldn’t survive while large businesses everyone knows about will continue to thrive. Finally as you read The Chicago School agrees with me. With that said advertisements benefit us and are great. |
